Slip test the new floor before handover. If it fails, send the report.
For builders who have just installed a floor and need a slip test before practical completion, occupancy or handover — and for the builder holding a fail, or a fail raised as a defect. Send the report. We write a rectification opinion and a scope of works you can take to another contractor.
The floor is down. Practical completion, occupancy or handover is next, and someone has asked for a slip resistance certificate — a pendulum test on the new floor, on paper. Or the test has already been done, and a location has come in under the specified P class. Either way, the conversation is no longer about the datasheet. It is about the installed surface.
What “slip test before handover” usually means
A wet-pendulum measurement of the floor as laid, reported as a P classification. Specs often borrow AS 4586 language for that class. The on-site method for a surface that is already down is AS 4663. The report you are asked to table is that measurement, not the tile brochure and not a verbal walkover.
If you do not yet have a report, the tester is a separate appointment. We do not start by swinging a pendulum. If you already hold the PDF — pass or fail — send it. We read the number against the specified or handbook class for that area. What a failed AS 4663 slip test means is the P-gap in handbook language.
If the new floor fails
A fail before practical completion is a condition of handover. A fail raised after occupancy is often a defect. In both cases the useful next step is the same: name the gap, write a path, and get a price that another contractor can also price.
Send us the slip test report. We come back with:
- A written rectification opinion — the in-situ class, the target class, and which of the four usual paths we think closes it.
- A scope of works you can print or forward to another contractor for a second quote. You are not obliged to use us.
- A Premrest quote to carry out those works nationally, if you want us. If you choose us, we do the works and can arrange a retest.
That paper trail matters when a superintendent is waiting and another trade is already quoting the same floor. Premrest has built a business on long-standing, honest, trustworthy relationships — the take-away scope is how we keep that honest. We are not a referral broker. How to rectify a failed slip test is the four paths without the product catalogue.
What the paper is, and is not
The tester’s PDF is a slip test report — a measurement. People call it a slip test certificate; it is still a result on a day, under the conditions of the test. Our works report, if you choose us, describes what was done. Neither document is a compliance certificate. We will not promise a pass, a P5, or a close-out on a timetable we have not written into a quote.
If you are still compiling the tender, not standing on a finished floor, use slip testing for tenders instead — that page is the risk in the price, not the fail at handover.
Where we work
National coverage. Perth and Western Australia by arrangement. Send the site address with the report. Call 1300 207 915 if practical completion is this week — still send the PDF so the path is read from the measurement.
Questions at practical completion
If the spec, the superintendent or the certifier has asked for a slip resistance record on the new floor, yes — that is usually an on-site wet-pendulum test, reported as a P class. A product datasheet is not that record. Send us the clause if you are not sure what they meant.
Send the slip test report. We read the in-situ class against the specified or handbook class, write a rectification opinion, and issue a scope of works you can take to another contractor for a second quote. Premrest will also quote to do the works nationally if you want us.
No. The tester’s report is a measurement. Our works report, if you choose us, describes what was done. Neither document is a compliance certificate, and we will not issue language that says otherwise.
Yes. That is the point of writing it down. You are not obliged to use Premrest. We still quote, and we will do the works if you choose us. We are not a referral broker.
